Community Garden

The garden is now slumbering for the winter...adding nitrogen and recouperating. It supplied so much delicious hearty food for so many this year!

Total harvest: over 550 lbs of good organic food!!
450lbs tomatoes, 17lbs basil, 11lbs beans, 4lbs green peppers, 2lbs parsley, 4lbs broccoli, 12lbs lettuce, 7lbs radishes, 5lbs sweet peas, and 7.5lbs rasberries. The majority of this food was donated to organizations like Sarah's, an Oasis for Women, Brian Coyle Center, Dorothy Day Center, and Bethany Home, as well as plenty for the community gardeners to share!

There were several encounters with critters and varied tactics to organically remove them (including throwing green tomatoes at them!). Many of the garden crew also learned about indigenous gardening and the idea of the Three Sisters Garden (Corn, beans, squash) and made connections with the people at Dream of Wild Health. Overall, a grand community experience through the garden this year.

Planting for spring is planned for Wednesday, March 21, 2007, 6-8pm. Plan to join us and have St. Martin's Table soup following the planting session!
