Herbs!

Hello everyone,
Once again, a fabulous night to be in the garden (so I heard--I wasn't actually there this week). Sage and menarda were harvested from the Simple Garden and hung in the greenhouse. Tomatoes of all varieties continued to show their fabulous coloring that seems to say "pick me now"! And there were even a few ears of corn that were harvested from the 3 Sisters' Garden. I guess the harvest season really is upon us as we say good-bye to August and welcome the slightly cooler temperatures, and if not that, the shorter days (in the amount of daylight) of September! The day was made complete by a send-off blessing for Esther as she heads to Ecuador to study abroad for a semester. Best to you, Esther! (Take pictures if you want so we can see some of the different flora that grows there!)

Next week we will be discussing what to do with the medicinal properties of some of the herbs: perhaps make soap, save, or something else? And maybe straightening up the greenhouse will be in order as well...grab a hoe or a bucket if you don't want to be volunteered for that! ;)

Another note: there will be an operetta performed of "Orpheus and Eurydice" (although a different version, think the Can-Can and Orpheus and the Underworld, if that rings a bell for anyone =) I'll look up what exactly it's about and ask if you have questions. The basis of the performance aside from the story, however, is to experiment with an outdoor venue while educating about the local foods that grow right here in our own Metro area. Sunday, Sep. 13, at 4-5:30 PM, right here in the Celeste's Dream Community Garden. Donations accepted. Bring your own chairs and blankets, but some locally grown foods will be sampled during the performance. Originality at its greatest, I think: opera and a picnic blanket!

See you this Tuesday evening, and always remember to bring friends!
Peace,
Stasia
